The Apex - The Apex

1. Contention: Chapter 2
2. Promise
3. Means To An End
4. Attack
5. Glass Walls
6. Interlude
7. If Detroit River Could Speak
8. You're Not Dead Yet?
9. The Girl Death Left Behind
10. Contention: Chapter 1

The Apex have released their debut album which is self titled. This album has a very metal sound to it, more directly, an older tech metal feel with the drumming here. This album has a similar sound to bands like Strapping Young Lad or a Cryptopsy, so if you are into bands like that, you could like this album. They have done a pretty good job on this album. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album seems to be pretty low and the vocals don't seem to be as loud or in your face as you'd figure them to be. The instrumentation on this album isn't bad, the band can play, but it feels more like they are trying to play as hard and crazy as they can. This is a little too over the top for me personally, would of liked it toned back a bit. Now onto the vocals and lyrics. The vocals on here seem like they are a little bit too forced and stretching the vocalists voice. There are hints of times where he did a shorter version of his vocal style and it just sounded better. He can sing though and its not bad. With the vocals the band has decided to go for songs about being distracted in things or society, failing at life, burning down everything, etc. These certainly seem to be very negative lyrics, but they work in this genre. The doomy type of lyrics are what fans like to hear, so they are on the right path for what people want to hear. All in all, not bad. The Apex have made a debut album that shows people what they are about an d the style they want to fit in within music. There are some things to work on, and there are some recording quality issues, but all in all, this is a good base for the band to start off with. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it. They have since called it quits (R.I.P.)

Allies To The Adversary - Deathbed

1. Overtaken
2. Mara
3. Brickyard
4. Mushrooms
5. Radiation
6. Lucid Living
7. Anesthesia
8. Lucid Dreaming

Allies To The Adversary have released their second album titled "Deathbed." This album is one that has a little more of a heavier, technical feel to it than the last album, it bring up their sound to a really nice level. This album is similar to that of Structures or Chelsea Grin, so if you are into either of these bands, you could really like this album. They have done a pretty decent job on this album. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded to a fairly decent quality. The bands instrumentation on here is pretty good as well, nothing spectacular, but they can play. Now onto the vocals and the lyrics, the vocals are not bad, he has some nice deep screams, a little hard to tell the lyrics, but this goes quite well with the deathcore style. He does however do some of the typical things you hear in this music, like the blah, but overall not bad. With the lyrics, they are pretty harsh and have a negative side to them. Now this is not bad since this is what fans of this music are looking for, but maybe a little more of a significant message to them could help. If you are looking for a single to this album, give the song "Lucid Dreaming" your attention as it is the hardest hitting song and gives you the best idea of the potential of the band. Allies To The Adversary have followed up their debut with a really nice  effort. This is hard, brutal and just a pretty awesome record all around. Good job guys. Hopefully they will keep this up. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.

Allies To The Adversary - Allies To The Adversary

1. Adversary
2. Demoralized
3. Mirrors
4. Death Row
5. Eternity Of Emptiness
6. Execrate

Allies To The Adversary have released their debut self titled album. This album has a very heavy feel with a groove to it that gives it a little more layer to the sound. think of something like a Suicide Silence when listening to this. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the quality is alright, could use a touch here or there, but otherwise its good and the instrumentation of the band is pretty solid as well. Now onto the lyrics and vocals, the vocals are hard to understand the words, but for deathcore, they are pretty good, just wish that the lyrics were a little more meaningful, but thats okay also. If you are looking for a single for this album, there isn't one, so just pick any song and give it a listen to see what the sound and feel of the album is. Allies To The Adversary are a young  band that is trying to break into the deathcore genre and so far they are doing an alright job. Hopefully they progress and continue to write new music and get out there more. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it and go see them at a show if you do like it.

Jude The Obscure - The Coldest Winter

1. Eyes Bat Lash
2. Rekindle
3. Stab
4. The Air Of A New Age
5. Onto Black And White
6. Fingernails And Lampshades
7. Wake Up My Love
8. Seven Steps Remix
9. Seven Steps Before The Stone
10. Save Me
11. The Golem Anomoly

Jude The Obscure have released their debut album titled "The Coldest Winter." This album really gives this band a huge heavy feel that goes along with that heavy hard punk music that borders on the metal line. When you first put this on you get the feel of an early Alexisonfire or early Boys Night Out, you really feel the heaviness, but the vocals stand out with the inability to really make them out. With the recording or this album, the vocals and guitar seem to be okay, but the drums seem to be a  bit in the background, needles to say this album needs a little work with recording. These vocals and lyrics need a little work as well to make them a little more listenable although the lyrics seem to be alright here. The song to listen to would be "Wake Up My Love" as this song features Dallas Green and George Pettit of Alexisonfire and gives you an overall idea of how the album sounds. All in all, this is a pretty decent 2003 emo era release from the band and it really gives this band a solid foundation. Give this album a listen and make sure you pay attention to this band. They have since called it quits (R.I.P.)
