Born Ruffians have released their second album titled "Red Yellow & Blue" . This album follows along with the same style and sound the band established on their debut. They have a very indie sound that seems to be the big thing in Canada right now. They have a similar so und to that of bands like Hollerado or Said The Whale, so if you are into bands like that, you will like this album.
when looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded to a pretty good level without loosing the bit of a raw, rough feel that indie music has. There are times that you wish the music was a little clearer and louder, but it helps with that indie feel that they are going for. The instrumentation on the album isn't too bad either, the band can play, and they show off their erratic play in songs like "Hummingbird". Their music overall isn't really anything too much, but it's decent playing, and they can do it. Not bad.
Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals on here can be very all over the place and fast, to where you need to really pay attention to get what they are talking about. They are also very gang vocal heavy in parts, and seem like jump scares at times. The band can sing, but it's a lot of chaos, and could use clearing up. With the lyrics, we can't really tell what they are saying at times, some of the lyrics are just jumble of made up words and musical words. The main singer also seems to sing so fast, you can't understand the lyrics. We can tell that some of the songs are about relationships and others are just odd topics. We don't know if anyone is really going to get meaning from some of the songs, so just take it for fun.
If you are looking for a single, we think the best one is "I Need A Life". This one is pretty normal and will show you what the band and album is all about as well.
Born Ruffians have added to their playlist, and have doubled down on their kooky, fun, all over the place music. This gives them more to go off of and be able to play nice, longer set. We are not really a fan of this type of music, but it seems to be finding someone, and if people enjoy it, thats all that matters right? Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
