The Standstills - EP

1. Let Me Go
2. Blind
3. Underneath My Skin
4. The Cure
5. One Mile To Home

The Standstills have released their debut EP, which has aptly been titled "EP".  This album shows the duo in an alternative rock way, while having a bit of a twangy sound to their rock. They have a sound thats a little hard to really get into at first listen, as that country ting throws rock fans off. These guys have a similar sound to that of The Lazys or One Bad Son, so if you like those bands, you could like this album. They have done a pretty solid job here. With the recording on this album, the album has been recorded really well. It has a nice clear sound, while having just enough of a touch to show it could be a first album. Really nicely record and sounds great. The instrumentation is pretty solid once you know it's only a duo making this noise. This album has nothing musically that will blow you away, just good old hard rocking music.  Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals on this album are quite good. He has a nice loud and forceful voice, that really conveys power, while still being clear and on point. You can certainly hear what they are singing about, and definitely goes well for radio. With the lyrics, the band has gone for songs about going through rough times with a significant other, relationships, being lost and more. These songs can be related to, if you can get the meaning. They are more songs to rock to, but also have something behind them. We think people can feel with these songs. Not bad all in all. If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, so we suggest giving the first track "Let Me Go" your attention, as this song is very powerful and shows what this band is all about.  The Standstills have made a debut album that really sets the standard high, while giving you an idea of what the band is like. After hearing this album, we feel this band can certainly make it, and we can't wait to hear whats next for them. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of this solid duo.
