Hotkid has released their debut album titled "Under The Streetlight." This album shows the band doing quite the garage rock thing which is gaining in popularity with the rise of indie rock. These guys have a similar sound to that of The Balconies and The Dirty Nil, so if you like those bands, you could like this one. They have done an alright job on this album. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded to a pretty good standard, while still having that dirty sound to help with the garage feel. The instrumentation on this album is nothing to marvel at, but they do hold a tune and can certainly play. Now onto the vocals and the lyrics, the vocals have that deeper female vocal style that goes with what you usually expect in the rock genre from females. She can sing clear and sing well, so that helps bring up the level of this album. With the lyrics, they have gone for an in your face way about talking about relationships. They have a bit of a different way of singing about them, but it is pretty much the same message tons of bands are talking about. If you are looking for a single to this album, give the song "Yours And Mine" your attention as it has the best. most direct message in it and shows you just what the band is like the best. Hotkid have made a debut album that shows a lot of promise and could really turn into something. It is not everyday that a 2 piece band sounds this good. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
