Viva Mars have released their debut album titled "Smile With Viva Mars." When I hear the bands name, I automatically think of Veronica Mars, which probably isn't the best thing for the band, especially when the target markets are so far apart. Viva Mars is more of a lighter indie rock band who go somewhat back to that 60's regular rock which people were all listening to back then. They have done a good job on this album. When looking at the recording quality of the album, the band could have done a little more to get the sound louder and the vocals more in your face, but overall, it's alright. Now onto the vocals and the lyrics. The vocals on this album are pretty good, but the lyrics could use a bit more meaning and tell the story they are trying to tell, just a little better. Viva Mars have a ways to go after this album, but you need a starting point and here it is. We hope the band works harder, progresses and gets to playing more shows so their name is out. Overall, not bad for a first album. Give this album a listen to decide for yourself what you think of it.
