Carried Away - Intrepid

1. Actions

4. Afraid To Be

Carried Away have released their debut album titled "Intrepid." This album is a very typical female fronted pop punk band, from the vocal style to the music in general, very generic. They have a sound which doesn't really have a hint of their own style of music yet here. The album has a similar sound to that of The Maddigans or We Are The In Crowd, so if like those bands, you could like this album. They have done a pretty good job here. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded to a pretty good quality. The instrumentation on this album is pretty average, the band can certainly p lay, but it is nothing that is going to get someone to turn their head and notice the band. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals on this album are good, she can certainly sing, unfortunately it's a bit of an amateur style and sound here. A perfect example would be The Maddigans who have played shows in 19 countries, been around since 2008 and still haven't been signed by anyone yet. If the vocal style was changed up just a little to a more modern style, the band would have a better chance of succeeding. There is certainly talent here, and we think this band can succeed. With the lyrics, the band goes for messages of not being controlled, relationships, how you are being treated by another and more. This album feels more like a relationships story than anything else. We feel people can connect with this, especially younger people, as they have similar situations they are dealing with or have dealt with. Not bad lyrics all in all. If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, so just pick a song and give it a listen to get the feel of the album, or listen to the whole thing as it is only four songs. Carried Away have made a debut, welcome to album that shows off the sound and style the band has decided to go with. It is unfortunately a very generic style that we think with some time and massaging, this band could turn into something. There is a good foundation here and we can't wait to see what else this band can do. Now all that is left is to get out more and play more shows so more people can know about them. Not bad. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of them.
