Painted Faces have released their debut album titled "The Drawing Board." This album has an alternative rock feel to it that just seems to have a different sort of vocal style to it. They have a similar sound to that of a older punk vocals with The Gaslight Anthem mixed in there. They have done an alright job here. If you are a fan of the late 2000's local scene, you may know these guys as the band is a mix of members from Riverside and Bordertown. When looking at the recording quality of this record, the album has been recorded to a pretty decent standard. The instrumentation is pretty good as well. You can tell this band knows how to play well, they have just decided that their music doesn't need to explore the full range of their instruments. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals on this album are very clear and easy to hear, but the singer seems to have a bit of a Foxy Shazam feel to his vocals, which seem to be a little out in left field for us and possibly a few others. He can certainly sing but that is just our take. With the lyrics, the band goes for messages of falling from grace, relationships, feeling regret and more, these songs have a bit here and there that people can relate to, but not completely. They have a nice sound and good lyrics, but the meanings could be a little more general so people could get into them more. If you are looking for a single to this album, give the song "NYC" your attention as it is the best representation of the album as a whole. Painted Faces have made a different sort of alternative indie album that has a good sound to it. Hopefully they will get a bit more of a regular sound to their music that will appeal more to people. We also hope the band can get out there more and play more so that people can be introduced to their music. Not bad overall. Listen to the album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
