Jonny Debt has released his debut album titled "Prince Of The Golden Horseshoe." Now that certainly is a self proclaimed statement here, as there are many bigger and better artists that have come up, in and around the Hamilton area. This is not to saw Jonny is not a decent artist at all. He has a sound that is very on the old school rock sound, while trying to be a little groovy. He has a similar sound to that of an older rock artist with a touch of 90's rock to it. Basically what you would find if you walked into a random bar with a band playing. He has done an alright job on this album though. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded quite well and has a nice sound to it. The instrumentation on the album however is more on the average side, with nothing to really get you excited. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals are done pretty well, he can certainly sing, but that high pitch voice at times it just a bit ear piercing and unappealing, so backing off on that would be nice, in our minds. The vocals are clear and you can tell everything so overall it is positive. With the lyrics, the band has gone the more typical route, having messages about being lost, not knowing what to do with life, relationships and being messed up, these are what you would figure rock songs would be about. Unfortunately none of the lyrics really hit with us. If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, so just pick a song and give it a listen to get the feel of the album. Jonny Debt has made a somewhat strange debut record that actually has a nice clear recording to it. Hopefully with the next one, he will go a little more on the path where more people can get into his music. Not bad in all. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
