Alanna Gurr has released her third album titled "Late At Night". This is the first album she has done with a full band supporting her. You can immediately tell that this album has a bigger sound than that of her previous two efforts.  She has a similar sound to that of Matthew Barber or CF Watkins. If you like these artists, you could like this album. They have done a good job on this album.

When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded to a pretty decent standard. This is probably her best quality album, it terms of recording so far. Now the vocals could be a little louder, but thats her style, soft spoken vocals. The instrumentation on this album is pretty basic. Her band can play, but it is nothing thats going to make you notice. They are pretty much just there to keep a beat, but it works in her minimalistic music.

Not onto the vocals and lyrics, with the vocals Alanna goes for a softer, melodic, pleasing vocal style that she has used now throughout her past two albums. She has a nice vocal style that works with the type of music she is making. Listening to the album, you can certainly tell that she can sing, and its pretty clear, so you can hear the words and get the meanings of the songs. We do however wish that her voice was a little louder, but thats the charm of her. With the lyrics, Alanna sings songs about relationships and being there for each other, wondering what people think, love, interactions with your person and more. We feel like these are a little more on the older peoples relationships, as opposed to youth. These do also seem to be coming from the perspective of the singer, and feel like her audience would be people in similar age to her. She has done a really good job on this music.

If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, but we think you should give "Hell Or High Water" your attention as it is the song we like the best and feel it really shows what the whole album is about.

Alanna Gurr has continued on with her style and sound on this album. We do really like how it's more than just a single person now so it feels fuller. Although her genre doesn't get tons of attention, we feel like she is going a good job and bringing people to her. This is a nice album, and we are glad to see the progression here. Alanna Gurr has released her second album titled "Oh, Horsefeathers." This album follows along the same style and sound as Alanna's debut EP. Her laid back coffee shop sound is something that many people can get into and just listen to doing any sort of task. She has a similar sound to artists like Feist or St. Vincent, so if you like either artist, you could like this album. She has done a pretty solid job here. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has a little bit of a rawer feel in the back, as the banjo and guitar don't quite seem to be polished. The instrumentation here is pretty average, but thats what you want with a lighthearted folk album, so it fits right in with the style she wants to go for. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals on this album are pretty decent, Alanna can certainly sing for sure. She has a nice, light country/folky tinge to her voice, and it works perfectly. Her voice is very clear, so you can hear everything she is saying and grab the stories of the songs. There are however little bits of male vocals in the background at times that at least on one song, that hit right in the screech pitch. Could do without those. Background vocals could be scratched all together for the most part, as they don't really add much to the overall landscape of the songs. With the lyrics, Alanna sings about love and relationships. This seems to be the main focus of this album, which after awhile get a bit tiresome. However, with a light background, sort of you can do anything and leave this on to play album, its not bad to have a subject you don't really have to pay close attention to get the jist of the songs. All in all, not a bad album. If you are looking for a single to this album, give the song "So Hard" your attention, as it is one of the better songs on the album, and really gives you a good idea of what the rest of the album is like. Alanna Gurr has made her second release give you a wider idea of what she is all about. She has a nice folky sound that you can enjoy anywhere, and we are looking forward to hear whats next. Alanna Gurr has released her debut album. She has decided to self title it. This album is one that really shows off that solo, light, folky rock music. Her music has a small pub, coffee shop in the afternoon type of feel to it. The music is quite similar to artists like a St. Vincent or a Feist type, so if you like those artists, you could really like this album. She has done a pretty good job here. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album sounds a little quiet and could use a bit more production to get the overall sound louder and clearer. The instrumentation on this album is pretty standard. This seems to be the case for many of the solo folk artists. Now onto the vocals any lyrics, the vocals on this album are done quite well. Alanna can certainly sing, and she shows it off with a light, airy vocals style that is perfect for the type of music she is going for. We think its a great job. Now with the lyrics, Alanna sings songs about family, getting married, love, not getting the one and more. These songs feel like that positive, happy and a bit girly subject matter. This is definitely not geared towards a male audience, but it work with what they are going for. Great job on the lyrics. If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, so just pick a song and give it a listen to get the feel of the album. Alanna Gurr has made a debut album that shows just what direction she wants to go with her music, and what her target audience is. We feel she has done that quite well.
