For Esme have released their second album titled "Sugar." This album continues on with the style and sound the band established on their debut album. This album really has that 80's electronic rock to it that swept through the 80's like a plague. These guys have a similar sound to that of a Metric or Depeche Mode, so if you like those artists, you could like this album. This album has been done fairly well actually. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded very well. The instrumentation of the band here isn't too bad either. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the vocals here are pretty decent, but they are what you would expect from an 80's style female fronted group. She can sing nice and clear but the only thing with them is some songs feel more spoken then sang. With the lyrics, they are not bad and they speak to many people as they are very generic and appeal to a large group of people. She is sing about how feeling down and bringing yourself back up, while also taking about love. if you are looking for a single to this album, listen to the song "You" as it is the best song on the album and it really gives you a feel for the rest of the album. These guys seem to be pretty good at doing landscapes and layering things, while still giving you something good here. Hopefully they can get it a little more into the 2000's in their music but having an 80's feel seems to be what is working right now. Pretty decent job overall here. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
