My Son The Hurricane have released their debut album titled "Check The Barometer." My Son is a band that has a singer that does hip hop with an 11 piece brass band backing him. This is certainly a different and unique combination for a band or group to go through, but on their debut, it seems to work. These guys have done an alright job on this album. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded fairly well and the instrumentation, along with the different elements really takes you back on first listen. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the lyrics along with the vocalist could use some work, more so the vocalist on this actual singing, his rapping is petty good. If you are looking for a single for this album, check out the song "Ain't My Style" as this is the best song on the album and it shows off the feel of the album the best. My Son the Hurricane have done a pretty good job here and they really do have have the potential to make something great here. The one problem is to try and get that many people's schedules together to play and record very much, so touring is somewhat hard. Maybe a scaled down band would help them out, but it is a lot of stuff hitting you. Good job. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it.
