BadBadNotGood - BadBadNotGood EP

1. Electric Relaxation
2. Untitled 63 - Nightmare - Yonkers
3. Salmonella
4. Hard In The Paint
5. Bastard - Lemonade/Orange Juice - Assmilk
6. Untitled 63 - Nightmare - Yonkers (Alt. Take)

BadBadNotGood have released their debut EP titled "BBNG". This album shows the band off in a sort of Instrumental Hip Hop Jazz way. Don't worry, if you haven't heard of that, we hadn't either until we listened to this band. The band seems to have a groove in their music that just seems to fit well with that hip hop style and a background someone could sing hip hop over. They have a similar sound to that of St, Germain or Robert Glasper Trio. So if you know or like those artists, you could like this album. They have done a good job.

When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album seems to sound quite well for just being a first release. These guys seem to have a standard, and want you to hear them in the best light. The instrumentation on this album is pretty decent too. They use a lot of different instruments that you aren't used to hearing in traditional music. The band plays all over the place, but thats done in jazz a bunch, so nothing here is really head turning, but they all play well.

Since there are no vocals or lyrics because it is instrumental, we'll skip that. However the band does have some time signature things that are a bit different, and they make listening to it a little interesting. Being one that doesn't really listen to jazz, it's hard to remember that you have to pay closer attention to the music and can not be a passive listener to get the full experience. This is noticed when you hear the band play harder or softer to express emotion.

If you are looking for a single to this song, there isn't really one, so we suggest "Untitled 63 - Nightmare - Yonkers" as there are two versions of the song on this album. This should give you an idea of the band and their album,

BadBadNotGood have released a debut EP that shows you what they are about, and how they want to sound. You can tell they play the crap out of the keys at times, and really the portrayal of their music. We think they have done a pretty good job here. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think.

The Ascot Royals have released their debut album which happens to be self titled. This album is one that shows this band as quite the indie rock band here. These guys are not the typical indie band, they have elements of soft rock in there as well, but they fit the indie mold. We think of this band as a Arkells or Broncho, so if you like those bands, you could like this album. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the album has been recorded fairly decently and it sounds good. The instrumentation on this album is done fairly well also, the band can play and the guitar is pretty solid at times. Now onto the vocals and the lyrics, the vocals and this album are done decently and you can clearly hear the singer. He has a nice voice and it works well with the style they are going for. With the lyrics on this album, they are a little more on the sophisticated side of things but that is the type of thing the people who listen to this music are looking for. Alright lyrics here but they could use a little tweaking here and there. If you are looking for a single to this album, there isn't one, so just pick a song and give it a listen to get the feel of this album. the Ascot Royals have made an album here that really sticks out. It rides the line of that more adult rock while still being for that indie lover. They have done a pretty good job overall on this album, while still being a bit different than the other bands. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think about it.

2. Young Ambition
3. I'm At The Lake

5. Fire Your Stylist
6. Lonely Libido
7. Build A State
8. The Keeper

11. Girls Song
12. Skomeo

Bootleg Glory have released their debut full length album "Buddy." The band decided that they would forgo the traditional route of recording an album and went down to Nashville, TN to record this album. This resulted in an album that is indie but has a feeling of being an out there, back woods, living in a cabin with a plaid shirt on feel. The sound of the album is solid and it fits right in with the image they are trying to put out there. Now with the recording, it has been recorded pretty decently, there are just a couple spot where the vocals sound far away, other then that, decent. The lyrics and the playing have been done well also, this band can play as well as right those kinda back woods songs. The song to listen to is "I;m At The Lake" as it gives you an idea of how the album sounds and it also has that umph in the song. These guys have done a pretty good job on this album and it sound decent. They have a mixed indie feel that you may like, so give them a shot, listen to the album and make your own opinion.

Albatross - Happenstance

1. Evil Woman
2. The Seaside
3. The Runaround
4. Smoke & Mirrors
5. Evil Woman (Live At Summerfest)

Albatross released their debut EP, and with this one they show a band that has the look and feel of a bar band. They would be one you go to see once a week and have a bar night at a certain bar. They do have a good rock sound, and they could get out of that hole they are in, with a little bit of coaching and direction, but as of right now, that's how they are. These guys could turn into a decent touring band with some evolution.
