Howler - Howler E.P.

1. Bad Bad Thought
2. Brittle Bones
3. Jesse James
4. My Nightmares

Howler have released their debut self titled album. This album shows a band that is just starting out, so it is like a welcome to sort of thing. This two piece doesn't quite seem to have things sorted out yet, but they are a cello and guitar two piece, so its very folk and indie. When looking at the recording quality of this album, the songs could have been recorded much better, but they are still okay and the instrumentation isn't something that is going to blow you away. Now onto the vocals and lyrics, the female vocals are too quiet and spaced out for us, but that is a technique used in folk but the lyrics seem to make some of that back up, so they are alright. If you are looking for a single for this album, give the song "Jesse James" your attention as it is the best song here and it shows off the feel of the album the best. Howler have a long way to go with what they are trying to do, but for a debut folk album, this isn't too bad. We hope they keep progressing and playing shows to get everything going and just right. Listen to this album to decide for yourself what you think of it. They have since called it quits (R.I.P.)
